Sleep apnea in men leads to heart disease, possible death
Sleep apnea is treated in many patients because they think it is a disadvantage, no real risk to health. But the opposite is true. Men who suffer from apnea are two thirds more likely to have a heart attack, and mortality risk is even greater in those with severe obstructive sleep apnea.
Coronary heart disease risk jumped 68% in men under 70, the apnea suffer from sleep disorders. Men and women over 70 are at increased risk. TheStudy was published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Although there have been many studies of patients apnea, this is the biggest yet. The Boston University School of Medicine surveyed 1927 men and 2495 women 40 and older who had no cardiovascular problems. Of these, about 3,000 odd subscribers, have 24% of men and 11% of women sleep apnea. Neither men nor women were treated for apnea. Researchers led by Dr. Daniel J. Gottlieb LED,found that, when risk factors were all removed from the test group attack male (age 40-70), men per apnea, which suffered 30 episodes of the hour for 68% more likely to suffer heart at least, need to open a coronary artery, or die from heart disease by 8.7 years follow up period. Although the researchers could not conclusively explain why the men were women suffer from heart failure more frequently than% 58th This statistic is not surprising, though, as the incidenceApnea in women is distinctly lower than in men.
What does this mean for you?
Means that you do everything to get your sleep apnea under control. If your apnea is caused by obesity, maybe this is the alarm bells need to change your diet and lifestyle. If you think you suffer from this problem, or refer to the closure of the airway during sleep, with your doctor. Many cases of obstructive sleep apnea go untreated because they are never reported inthe first place.
